It must be difficult to peak so young.

Movies:

we don't really want to see United 93. It's more approriate for people born in after 2000 to watch it since they'll have no real memory of the event. They'll be like "wow. That was such a great movie. can you imagine, mom, what it was like to be there?" Then you'll say, "no, I really can't. I was in Utah, helping Mr. Jeffs run his polygamist sect. I heard about it on the radio though."

Movies we kinda dug:

Inside Man. Just a well done movie. It's like eating a well prepared meal that you've had before. Not a surprise but it hits the spot.

Lucky Number Slevin. Good chemistry between Lucy Liu and Mr. Hartnett. Bruce Willis is good as are Kingsley and Freeman. The movie isn't great but it was fun.

Otherwise, no plans to see Mr. Cruise anytime soon.

Glen, you shithead

We once new a man named Glen. Possibly a slightly enjoyable rumination on love.

But, there is something to this movie. Pacino is great, the movie probably would have been more enjoyable had it been seen when it came out in the 1970s. Sindey Lumet (apparently one is supposed to pronoune the "t") was the director. No complains there.

Far From Heaven: Didn't really like it. Julianne Moore was fine and Dennis Haystert is awesome as always. Dennis Quaid? Well, some of us are actually fans but we just didn't think he was that memorable. He was in the shadows a lot.

Dawn of the Dead: Liked it. Go George Romero. We really didn't expect that much. Sure it is supposed to be a classic horror film but most horror films just arent' that great. But this movie is actually pretty damn good. It's interesting, it has some nice tension and semi-scary moments as well.

House of a 1,000 Corpses: go Rob Zombie. Wow. This is just a really odd movie. But is so suprising and shocking that we think it is worth a rental. But if you don't like scary movies, stay away, far away.

Underrated Movie of the Moment: Ed Wood, Starring Johnny Depp, Martin Landau. Directed by Tim Burton. Funny and sad as hell.

Spanglish my Danish

So, Spanglish was pretty good. A nice little movie, not too realistic, a bit corny, but features good acting and some reasonable dialogue and emotions.
That's it!

I Heart Huckabees

This is our inaugural review here at littleboxes movies. We hope to bring you a nice mix of outside movie reviews and our own relfections on what was good, what is good, and what just plain sucks. Will we offer anything unique? Well, at the moment we have no plans to, but hey, things change.

None of us have seen I Heart Huckabees but we think this one is a good one. We read the ever-reliable Peter Travers's review in Rolling Stone. Mr. Travers seemed to like the movie while acknowledging that the New Yorker apparently hates it. We will take his word for it. "The New Yorker, yes, the New Yorker"--Chris Cooper is Adaptation.

We especially liked this line from Travers's review:
"Best of all is Mark Wahlberg as Tommy, an angry post-9/11 firefighter so against Big Oil that he rides to fire scenes on his bike."

David O. Russell directed this film. He also directed Three Kings and we loved that movie.

One of our staff just blurted out that Travers is a corporate whore, so, if you also feel that way, take his review with a grain of salt or something.
